Your customized treatment plan may consist of a single approach or a combination of medications, therapies and procedures including:

  • Antidepressants: To alleviate pain in certain situations and improve sleep
  • Antiinflammatory drugs: asprin-like drugs, to reduce swelling in irritation and relieve pain
  • Antiseizure medications: to relieve certain types of pain by reducing abnormal electrical discharges in damaged nerves
  • Biofeedback and relaxation techniques: to relieve pain, reduce muscle spasms, and diminish stress
  • Fluoroscopic procedures: X-ray guided nerve blocks to relieve pain
  • Injection treatments using local anesthetics: with or without cortisone-like medicines to reduce swelling, irritation, muscle spasms, or abnormal nerve transmissions that can cause pain
  • Implantable devices: to provide continuous relief from chronic cancer pain and other types of pain
  • Intradiscal electrothermal coagulation: to relieve back pain
  • Myeloscopy: Treats intractable radicular back pain
  • Narcotic pain killers: to treat acute pain and cancer pain
  • Neurolytic techniques: treatment of nerves with heat and/or cold
  • Physical and occupational therapy: also, exercise therapy, whirlpool, ultrasound, massage and manipulation
  • Psychological intervention: including individual and group counseling as well as support groups
  • Spinal cord stimulation: to manage chronic back pain, Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, neuragias and neuropathies, spasticity and vascular pain
  • Surgical procedures: when necessary
  • Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS): to stimulate nerve fibers through the skin to diminish pain
